The Route to Tortuguero National Park

Traveling to Tortuguero is one of the best adventures in Costa Rica. There are somo good options to get here:

  • By Plane: The domestic airlines Nature Air and Sansa offer one daily flight from San Jose Airport. It is a 25 minutes flight and it departs at 06:00am.

Additional flights are often added during high season, and depature times can vary according to weather or the whim of the airline. In addition, there are charters flights that operated on this area as part of package trips. Be sure to arrange with Turtle Beach Lodge your pickup at the airstrip.

  • By Car: It´s not possible to to drive to Tortuguero, there are no roads connecting this area. If you have a car, your best bet is to leave it in San Jose and take our organized tou; or to drive to La Pavona Dock located in Cariari de Guapiles. Here, there is a parking place where you can safety leave your car. Then, be sure to be on time to catch the taxi boat departing at 1:00pm.
  • By Boat: A boat trip through the canals and rivers of this region is often the highlight of any visit to Tortuguero. The tours begins from your hotel in San Jose where a bus will come to pick you up directly from your hotel´s door. The ride goes by the Braulio Carillo National Park and there is a stop for lunch. After having a great typical lunch, the bus goes through nice local villages to get to the Dock point.
